Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas stated on CNN’s “State of the Union” programme on Sunday that the number of immigrants crossing the border has decreased by 50% since the pandemic-era immigration regulation known as Title 42 expired at midnight on Thursday.

In comparison to earlier in the week, before Title 42 expired at midnight on Thursday, “the United States Border Patrol has experienced a 50% drop in the number of encounters over the past two days,” Mayorkas stated.

Still early, I say. It is now day three. However, we have been preparing for this change for a very long time.

In contrast to the more than 10,000 interactions that occurred just before Title 42’s expiry, Mayorkas reported that U.S. Border Patrol officers had roughly 6,300 encounters with border crossers on Friday and another 4,200 on Saturday.
