In spite of some of his own team’s supporters jeering him before and during PSG’s resounding victory against Ajaccio at the Parc des Princes, Lionel Messi had a tough time making his way back into Paris Saint-Germain’s starting lineup.

Since being suspended by the club earlier this month for taking an unapproved vacation to Saudi Arabia and skipping a training session, this was Messi’s first appearance for PSG.

The World Cup champion striker then offered PSG and his teammates an apology, claiming that he “sincerely thought” he had a free day.

However, several PSG supporters voiced their opinions throughout the 5-0 victory on Saturday, which helped the team get closer to a record-tying 11th Ligue 1 championship.

This season, Messi has received boos from certain PSG supporters before. A sizable portion of PSG supporters booed Messi and Neymar in March.

Messi’s management denied rumours earlier this week that he had decided to sign with a Saudi Arabian club once his contract with PSG expires on June 30.
